In a 38km distance from the island city, there lies the verdant village of Salakos. The springs and abundant running water have created such a lush vegetation that attracts visitors’ attention. There are vines, walnut trees and olive groves everywhere.

The favorite place of one visiting the place for the first time is the cobbled central square of the village with the majestic fig trees providing their shade by the running waters.

This village absolutely combines mountain and sea greatness. With narrow alleys and small houses, numerous trees and cobbled floors, Salakos is the ideal place for families due to its climate. In very short distance from Kamiros beach.

Salakos is a place of great visiting annually, providing all the necessary amenities to its visitors efficiently.

However, its permanent residents stay faithful to tradition and customs. That is why, you can see the elderly women baking in the wood fired ovens, spreading oatmeal, grinding wheat as well as carving wooden chairs in the small workshop of the village, all year round.

The location is also indicated for a visit to Profitis Ilias monastery as well as the byzantine churches of Agios Georgios and Agios Nikolaos.

Finally, of the many village local products visitors especially love melekouni, yaprakia (traditional goats), spoon sweets, traditional macaroons and jams made of fresh fruit.
